Voice over internet protocol is sometimes  known as Voip or voice over ip. It is becoming increasingly popular with individuals and groups alike. Making calls through a traditional landline has become primitive and inefficient.

But what is voip?

A VoIP phone system provides the means to communicate through your internet connection as opposed to using a conventional landline. There is also an option of being able to make video calls providing you have the right equipment. Making a call using a traditional system with the connection maintained both ways for the entire duration of the call results in at least half of the connection wasted – one party is listening whilst the other is talking. Voip send and retrieve data across the connection when it’s needed, rather than keeping it open all of the time. It’s much more efficient than circuit-switch networks, allowing more calls to share the same line.

There are many advantages of voice over ip with relatively few disadvantages;

Voice over IP is
• Much cheaper than traditional methods with some systems providing free calls to a wide range of countries
• Communication is more productive by reducing wasted calls and ensuring the two parties have a valuable exchange.
• Complex technology such as conferencing between several parties is more usable.
• It is easy to setup and install the correct software to your machine.
• IP telephone systems communicate in the same way that computers do, there’s no need to have a separate network dedicated just to voice calls.
